ohhh matt cooke what will we do with you? i’m not going to sit here and defend him and i don’t think he’s even defending himself. we all know his hit yesterday was stupid, but he plays for my team and i support him always.
the casual pens fan is quick to throw cooke under the bus. you know the fan i’m referring too. the one that reads the newspaper in the morning and catches a clip on the news and then thinks they know what they’re talking about. sorry, you don’t. sure, the hits are stupid and elbows to the head are just great. however, hockey is a very emotional sport (on and off the ice ha) and cooke is the instigator. he’s hitting, getting in players heads and you know it’s coming right back to him. that’s gonna catch up to a guy and have an affect on his play. i’m not trying to make excuses for him being careless and stupid at times. i just think people need to realize it’s not like he is sitting on the bench planning these things during the game.
cooke is now only known for these hits and not for his play. he’s a good hockey player, one of our best penalty killers and he has a strong voice in that locker room. he’s not only a good teammate he’s a good guy period. the stuff him and his wife do through they’re foundation is great. mike rupp was interviewed after his last suspension and talked about how it’s hard for a player this far into his career to just up and change his game. this hit is the last straw and if i’m cooke… my game is changed.
